Kinky Boots

Cast: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Joel Edgerton, Nick Frost, Sarah Jane Potts, Jemima Rooper, Linda Bassett

Kick up your heels and get ready for a laugh-out-loud good time when a sassy, brassy drag queen helps the owner of a small-town shoe factory whip up a hot footwear line for the cross-dressing crowd!

Charlie (Edgerton) just inherited his father’s factory where the most ordinary, boring shoes have been made for years in the conservative town of Northampton. Unfortunately, Charlie also has inherited the factory’s outstanding debt and is forced to be the bad guy who must lay off all of the dedicated employees. When the charming Lauren (Potts) suggests “change the product” and not give up, Charlie conceives the notion that Lola (a highly entertaining Ejiofor) who grew up as Simon, could be a perfect blend of both client and entrepreneur if she and all of her drag queen friends would strut around and perform wearing the proposed “kinky boot collection”. With that in mind, the entire staff is forced to now create some of the most outrageous and fabulous footwear, soon to be displayed on the feet of the most entertaining drag queens throughout Europe. In the tradition of The Full Monty and Saving Grace, the formula behind Jarrold’s lighthearted comedy is a bit trite, yet there is enough good material here to make Charlie and his kinky shoe factory worth checking out. Especially entertaining are the musical sequences where the boots come to life on the vivacious performers who help emulate the feeling that you get when you go see a really great drag show. While you may not laugh out loud, you’ll certainly smile from cheek to cheek and find Kinky Boots has something for everyone whether you’re “a boy, a girl or yet to decide”.
--
Chris LombardiPhiladelphia Film Festival review: Charlie Price (Joel Edgerton) inherits his father’s beloved shoe factory in conservative and dull Northampton, England. This is more of a curse than a blessing for Charlie, however: his girlfriend Melanie wants to leave Northampton for hip and exciting London. And the shoe factory, it turns out, is floundering financially – retail stores would currently rather stock cheap import footwear than Price’s more expensive, high-quality wares. Life looks grim for the shoe factory until Charlie visits London and encounters Lola (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a no-nonsense drag queen desperate to find a pair of high heels that can support his weight. Inspiration follows, and so does Lola, who accompanies Charlie to Northampton to supervise the construction of the sexiest steel-heeled female footwear that man has ever worn. However, there are a few bumps on the road to the shoe line’s unveiling during Milan fashion week: Lola comes to heads with a bigoted, macho factory worker (Shaun of the Dead’s Nick Frost), while Charlie and Melanie endure serious challenges to their relationship. A delightful comedy inspired by a real-life story, Kinky Boots is anchored by a winning turn from rising star Ejiofor (Dirty Pretty Things), while director Julian Jarrold perfectly blends comedy, drama, humanity and a handful of colorful song-and-dance drag numbers. These boots were definitely made for walking…out of the theater with a big smile.

Shiner

One of the more shocking, original and daring films this year Christian Calson’s debut Shiner explores the dark crevices of love, desire and passion. The film revolves around three couples, whose intimate, intense and occasionally abusive relationships provide frameworks for love. Tony (Scott Stepp) and Danny (Derris Nile) are two longtime masculine friends whose kinks are to beat up other “fags” and then beat up each other, violence which ignites their rapid sexual desire. Tony’s roommate Elaine (Conny Van Dyke), on the rebound from a bad relationship, beds the initially normal Reg (Seth Harrington), but when an argument turns physical, it takes their intimacy to a new level. And then there is the timid mamma’s boy Bob (Nicholas T. King), a gay boy and gym attendant who creepily stalks the hunky boxer Tim (David Zelina), whose low self-esteem leads to an unexpected confrontation with Bob.
Raw, edgy, boldly sexual, violent, sometimes difficult to watch while remaining unbelievably compelling, Shiner makes for gripping viewing and certainly for much heated discussions afterwards.

Dream Boy

Wow! What a nice surprise. The film takes place in rural Louisiana in the late 20th century. The film has a quiet intensity and power, is beautifully paced with excellent attention to detail, which gives it a very genuine feel. There is a simplicity and sparsity to the film that makes it feel like classic Americana, like the Last Picture Show, Hud or East of Eden or a Eudora Welty story. The two actors Stephan Bender and Maximillian Roeg that play the teenage boys are outstanding and should have very fruitful careers after this film. They give beautifully controlled nuanced performances that give the characters an honesty and depth. Diana Scarwid plays one of the boy's mother and is amazing. This actress is really underused in films and her performance here is a powerhouse and should be nominated for a best supporting Oscar. The singer Rickie Lee Jones plays the other boys mother and in a small part creates a memorable and touching character. Don't want to give too much away about the plot but the center of the story is about two teenage boys. One who just moves into town and the friendship that develops as they gravitate to one another. Keep an eye out for this film, it is a sleeper and true jewel.

Quinceañera

From the gay filmmakers/partners who made The Fluffer comes this superb tale set in their own Echo Park, LA neighborhood. Winner of both the Dramatic Audience and Jury Awards at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and deservedly so, this crowd-pleaser deftly balances gay and straight storylines while presenting an engaging tale about sexuality, culture clashes and gentrification.

3 REASONS TO DOWNLOAD THIS FILM

1.)Has become a classic; belongs in every collection.
2.)Director/partners Wash West and Richard Glatzer have captured the essence of sexual repression and misplaced sexuality.
3.)Quinceañera drips with desire.

Magdalena (fresh-faced newcomer Emily Rios) is preparing for her exciting, slightly chaotic quinceañera, the traditional Latino rite of passage that signals a fifteen-year-old girl’s passage into womanhood. But the young, religiously devout girl reveals to her conservative family that she is pregnant and, shamed by the news, her parents quickly ostracize her. She seeks refuge with her Uncle Tomás (Chalo González) in his small garden apartment in Los Angeles’ Echo Park, where her cousin Carlos (Jesse Garcia) lives as well. Carlos is quite honest about being gay and exudes a sexy working-class machismo that catches the eye of a gay couple, one British and the other a television producer, who have moved into the neighborhood. The couple quickly seduce the tough but tender Carlos into a steamily depicted ménage-à-trois, but when the young Latino begins to bond emotionally with one of the men, the situation gets tricky and could jeopardize the family unit that Carlos, Magdalena and Uncle Tomás have created.
Taking their cues from the British “kitchen sink dramas” of the late 1950s and early '60s, which looked at the conflict between working-class and middle-class characters, openly gay directors Richard Glatzer (Grief) and Wash Westmoreland (The Fluffer) along with gay Executive Producer Todd Haynes (Far From Heaven) have crafted a fresh, spirited and accessible story that pulls no punches in depicting gay characters who are flawed, especially the gay couple who use Carlos for their sexual pleasure. Rios’ and Garcia’s charismatic presence, along with González’s (who was in Sam Peckinpah’s The Wild Bunch) warm portrayal as their accepting uncle, brings authentic and believable emotions as the drama unfolds around them. Quinceañera wears its queer sensibility proudly on its sleeve and its sincerity shines through with an appealing cast, its frank depiction of sexuality and sweet, gentle humor. Ben & Arthur

In spite of the obvious deficiencies in both writing and acting, there is something to recommend in this feature film with gay marriage as its topic. Arthur wants desperately to be married, complete with a legal certificate, while his hunky lover Ben doesn't see the need to drag law into it and is happy with the way things are. Meanwhile across town, Arthur's own brother, Victor, is a religious fanatic obsessed with saving his brother from a sinful lifestyle.
Just as the happy couple finally starts making progress with their wedding plans, Victor shows up with sin on his mind and a gun in his hand. Ready and willing to do whatever he thinks necessary, Victor pulls the trio into a dramatic chain of events that doesn't end well.
The script meanders all over the map, taking us on trips we didn't know we were on and to mysterious apartments. Some of the acting is just as meandering. A few of the actors stumble on their lines. The sets and costumes all appear to be of gay West Hollywood, but some of the actors/locations are supposed to be born-again Christians! Putting aside this, the story was lively, keeping interest until the very end and Jamie Brett Gabel who played Ben is not only a fine actor, but also a site for sore eyes.

I Think I Do

The screwball "who will marry who" antics of The Philadelphia Story are given a gay update in this deliriously romantic and sexy comedy. Bob (Arquette) and Brendan (the hunky Christian Maelen) are college roommates whose close friendship (and Bob’s mad crush) is chilled after a hopeful but awkward pass by Bob is rejected by Brendan. Now five years later, they, and their college chums all reunite for the marriage of one of their former classmates. Among those in attendance is Brendan, his college girlfriend Sarah (Corman), and Bob, who brings along soap opera star Sterling (Watkins), his handsome but ever so dull boyfriend. As everyone parties and consumes just enough booze, libidos are raised and inhibitions lowered. Is the bedroom-eyed Brendan really out and longing for Bob? Will Sarah get her wish and bed Brendan, if only for old times sake? Will Sterling marry Bob and get his hoped-for themed wedding? Will Bob ever wake up and smell the yearning? The disastrous possibilities make for great, hilarious comedy! Leave your anxieties, problems and concerns at the door and simply enjoy this perfect queer summer movie from Brian Sloan.

Man of the Year (Dirk Shafer)

A Spinal Tap for the homo set!

Witty, dramatic and slyly humorous, this faux documentary follows the unrobing success and sexual coming out of Dirk Shafer, Playgirl's 1992 Man of the Year. Cleverly constructed by Shafer, the film turns the tables on his real-life achievements by restaging them in documentary fashion. Ruggedly handsome with piercing blue eyes, bond hair and delicately rippling muscles, Dirk ascended the ranks of "straight" nude modeling ot become one of Playgirl's favorite pin-ups. The tale unfolds as Dirk comes out and the film proceeds to recount the events leading up to the "hoax."
Adding to the "reality" of the film is actual footage from numerous TV talk shows and interviews with his parents (both played by actors). The slapdash comedy mostly works, though the (slightly prudish) film drags a bit near the end.

Nonetheless Man of the Year works as an example for any gay orlesbian person coming to public grips with their sexuality.

The New Twenty

Cast: Andrew Wei Lin, Bill Sage, Colin Fickes, Nicole Bilderback, Ryan Locke, Terry Serpico

Five best friends (straight and gay), all 29 years-old, discover new truths about themselves and the friendships they thought would last forever in this tight & queer Big Chill for the new millennium.

Slick and as polished as many Hollywood films, The New Twenty is the story of a group of NYC (straight & gay) college friends who are on the cusp of their thirties. Their tight friendships come apart at the seams over the course of this 90 minute crisp drama. At the group's core are a hard-edged investment banker Andrew and his equally fierce Asian fiancé Julie. And then there's Ben, a cuddly gay guy addicted to online hookups (with untruthful profiles); Julie's gay brother Tony who is in a relationship with Robert, an HIV-positive writer (seasoned actor Bill Sage); and Felix, their drug-addled friend, always in a mess. Conflicts are brewing beneath the surface of this seemingly loving group of friends. The drama comes to a head on the evening of Andrew's bachelor party, and great drama it is too.
With an eye towards quiet observation rather than melodrama, director Chris Mason Johnson delivers a satisfying Big Chill drama for new millennium.

Little Ashes

In the midst of the repression and political unrest of pre-Spanish Civil War, eccentric artist Salvador Dalí and renowned poet and revolutionary Federico García Lorca find their artistic and sexual freedom. The two form a bond challenged by their fierce ambitions, their friends, the struggle between a love for Spain and a love for each other. In 1922, Madrid is wavering on the edge of change as traditional values are challenged by the dangerous new influences of jazz, Freud and the avant-garde. Salvador Dalí arrives at university at the age of 18, determined to become a great artist. His bizarre blend of shyness and rampant exhibitionism attracts the attention of two of the university’s social elite — Federico García Lorca and Luis Buñuel. Salvador is absorbed into their decadent group and for a time Salvador, Luis and Federico become a formidable trio, the most ultra-modern group in Madrid. However, as time passes, Salvador feels an increasingly strong pull toward the charismatic Federico — who is oblivious to the attention he is getting from his beautiful writer friend, Magdalena. Finally, in the face of his friends’ preoccupations — and Federico’s growing renown as a poet — Luis sets off for Paris in search of his own artistic success. Federico and Salvador spend the holiday in the seaside town of Cadaqués. Both the idyllic surroundings and the warmth of the Dalí family sweep Federico off his feet. Salvador and he draw closer, sharing their deepest beliefs, inspirations and secrets, convinced that they have found a kind of friendship undreamt of by others. It is more than a meeting of the minds; it is a fusion of souls.

Slutty Summer

A witty, sexy comedy which cleverly balances gay cynicism with old-fashioned romance, Slutty Summer tells of one young gay boy’s sex-filled on-the-rebound summer in sultry New York City. Tall, lanky blond Marcus (writer/director/star Casper Andreas) gets a sudden gay-life reality check after he comes upon his lover of four years sprawled naked on their apartment floor entwined with another guy. Hurt and a bit naïve about the world of gay men’s obsession with sex, he gets a job as a waiter where he is befriended by a group of love-lorn, horny, hot, handsome fellow waiters. And here begins our back-on-the-market hero’s “education.” Taking the advice of “sleep around, it’s the best medicine,” Marcus soon falls for co-worker Tyler, a pouty-lipped beauty who is only looking for sex romps, not a relationship.
Set to a great soundtrack, Slutty Summer, pulsates with great dialogue, flashes of hot flesh and a bevy of humpy men craving for sex.

Relax... It's Just Sex!

A captivating poly-sexual, multiracial romantic comedy that features an impressive Hollywood-studded cast and revolves around the tangled relationships and love affairs of an extended group of close-knit friends. They include the sexy, straight ringleader Tara (Bound‘s Jennifer Tilly) who’s desperate to have a child with Gus (Timothy Paul Perez); her best friend Vincey (Mitchell Anderson of "Party of Five"), a love-lorn gay playwright; lesbian Robin (Tank Girl‘s Lori Petty), who pines after the voluptuous Sarina (Cynda Williams) who in turn is in a dying long-term affair with Megan (Serena Scott Thomas) who claims the two haven’t had good sex since Martina won at Wimbledon. Also are in the cast are T.C. Carson as a black gay artist with unconventional beliefs and Eddie Garcia as an HIV+ gay Latino. In a memorable cameo is Academy Award nominee Paul Winfield as Auntie Mahalia. How this diverse group of people navigate the treacherous waters of romance, love and sex (not always in that order) is played out in this alternately funny and touching film. Especially memorable are the mousy-voiced titan Tilly who gives a wonderful performance as a woman who cherishes her friendships, and Mitchell as the love-hungry gay man who mistakes swallowing for commitment, dates for affairs and homophobia as a declaration of war. Castallaneta, whose previous feature film was the inventive Together Alone, offers assured direction infused with witty dialogue and familiar characters in a film that will entertain and tug at your heartstrings. The Line of Beauty

Cast: Dan Stevens, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Jake Broder, Elize du Toit, Tim Elliott, Joseph Morgan, Trevor White

From Alan Hollinghurst's Booker Prize-winning novel about a gay man's sexual and political awakening in 1980s England comes this compellingly written and acted mini-series from the BBC.

This excellently written and acted mini-series from the BBC, based on Alan Hollinghurst’s Booker prize winning novel about a gay man’s sexual and political awakening in ‘80s England is compelling viewing. In 1983, Margaret Thatcher's conservative government is cutting social services for the poor and giving huge tax breaks to the wealthy. England is turning into a nasty consumer culture and if you're not part of it, you're lost. Nick Guest (handsome newcomer Dan Stevens) is a working class gay boy who finds himself drawn into the wealthy and politically connected Fedden family, progressing from college chum of son, Toby (his object of lust), and guardian for their troublemaking daughter, Cat (the spunky Hayley Atwell), to a close family confidant. We follow Nick’s life through wild 80’s-style parties, luxury vacations in France and his love affairs with first a black bank clerk and then a Lebanese millionaire. Besides Nick's love life, which is quite juicy, we also track the family's emotional ups and downs over the next four years through sex and financial scandals, political double crossings and the pernicious inroads AIDS makes into '80s London.
This mini-series is crafted with the sumptuous production values and attention to detail that the BBC is well known for. The Line Of Beauty is sure to become a classic in the same way that Brideshead Revisited and Queer As Folk have. This is one gay DVD you'll want to see over and over again; we have.

Mr. Smith Gets a Hustler

One imagines that Matthew Swan, the writer of Mr. Smith Gets a Hustler, was thinking that his film would harken back to Frank Capra's Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, but he doesn't succeed on quite that level. This somewhat aimless, but highly atmospheric, film is set largely in a male hustler bar somewhere in the meat-packing district of Manhattan. At this strangely deserted bar, a nasty pimp fields calls from hotel salesmen and sends his boys out on the road. His favorite boy is Bobby Blue (Feldman) who works to support his drunken deluded mother. Enter a john known as "Mr. Smith" who takes an immediate and unusual interest in Bobby.
This suitably seedy trip to the NYC underworld of gay hustlers is perfect fodder for lovers of the films Johns and Speedway Junky. There's male flesh, cute guys, older johns and a wholly appropriate air of gloom.

R U Invited? 5 Guys and a Sex Party

Five friends receive invitations to an underground sex party. However, to qualify for attendance each invitee must submit revealing photos as a "screening" process." As the party draws near, issues of monogamy, weight & appearance, discrimination, drug use, and promiscuity arise. Friendships are tested and pushed to their boundaries, personalities collide, sexual histories are revealed, and relationship survival is in question.
Shot in Texarkana, Texas, R U Invited takes on the subject of the camaraderie of friendship and the ability to survive off-the-wall challenges that at times come along in totally unexpected manners.

Adored: Diary of a Porn Star

In this evocative Italian film, writer/director/star Marco Filiberti stars as fictional gay Italian porn star Riki Kandinsky who reunites with his older brother Federico at their parent's castle after their father's death. Frederico is an uptight businessman who has never gotten along with his younger brother. After some family-type clumsiness Federico accompanies Riki back to Rome to talk things over with their father's lawyers. Federico knows little about his younger brother, except that he has no money worries and he lives in a luxurious flat. After some snooping, he finds a porno magazine with pictures of his brother which shed plenty of light on the subject. The brothers, who had grown apart over the years, get to know each other again. Then, one day, their lives are changed dramatically by a car accident during which a young woman dies before their eyes.
Filberti says his film is "about a bond between opposites, without the mechanism of a conventional love story, by pursuing a purely platonic attraction." (Italian with English subtitles)

The Birdcage

Cast: Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, Gene Hackman, Dianne Wiest, Dan Futterman, Calista Flockhart, Hank Azaria, Christine Baranski, Kevin Stea

An often hilariously funny and successfully Americanized, upliftingly pro-gay remake of the French farce La Cage aux Folles. The setting is Miami Beach's hip South Beach where Armand Goldman (Robin Williams) runs an extravagant drag revue called The Birdcage. His longtime lover Albert (Nathan Lane) is the star attraction, billed as Starina. The two men live in an uninhibited, gloriously tacky apartment tended by Agador (a very funny Hank Azaria), their Guatemalan houseboy (think Lucy on steroids). The story remains the same: Armand's son wants to bring his fiancée and her right-wing parents over to meet the family, forcing the men to put on a "family values" show for the unsuspecting future in-laws. Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest wonderfully underplay their roles as an arch-conservative U.S. Senator and his doting wife. As Armand, Williams is subtly fey and delivers the film's best lines, and Lane steals the show as the theatrically swishy diva "mom" with an ear-piercing squeal. Possibly too contemporary (will its au courant political jokes work in a few years?), the comedy is meant to be "non-offensive" to all, as the most intimate the lovers get is holding hands.

Anne Bancroft is the best on-screen Jewish mother ever.
I cry every time I see the film when Matthew Broderick goes down to get pizza and at the ending. Torch Song Trilogy comes from the heart

Harvey Fierstein's breakthrough Tony Award-winning play becomes this big-screen essay about the life and loves of Brooklyn's most lovable drag queen. Fierstein is both touching and hilarious as Arnold Beckoff, whose life is presented in three non-episodic acts. The story examines his relationship with his bisexual boyfriend (Brian Kerwin), gay lover (Matthew Broderick) and mother (Anne Bancroft).

Gigasize and 'Split' Movies

All movies posted in Sendspace and Rapidshare will have the same links, so you can download from either and get the same links.

With that in mind, some of you are not aware that these movies have been split in order to be uploaded, which means that the movies must be JOINED in order to view the entire movie. Here's the link that you'll need in order to download the 'joiner' HJ Split.
http://www.freebytesoftware.com/download/hjsplit.zip The process of joining is fairly simple, load HJ Split, select from first screen 'Join' then a new window will appear where you'll select the button 'input file' enter file no .oo1, press the start button, and HJ Split will do the rest. Once the movie is joined, you will have the whole movie to enjoy. The split files can be deleted at this point. You will no longer need them. A word of caution. YOU MUST HAVE ALL FILES in order to join a complete movie. Any questions, please email the email address listed below.

UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED IN POSTING, ALL FILES ARE INTERCHANGEABLE

Hi,

If you're reading this, you've found this blog by way of Rubbing1Off.blogspot.com. This blog will only contain Gay Themed movies.

Postings of Get Real, 2 Minutes Later, Regarding Billy, and Rock Haven, now have Sendspace and Rapidshare links.

Have all episodes of True Blood that have been aired. As new episodes are aired, they will be added. (True Blood is current to 08-09-09 episode) Plus, have the new 'Hung' Series to post as well. HOT Thomas Jane as a Gigalo! (Hung is current to 08-09-09 episode)

Even though I usually DON'T take requests, I do like to know what you guys find interesting and would like to see posted here. BUT!!!! Please, realize, an average movie TAKES 6 TO 8 HOURS TO UPLOAD! DON'T EVEN THINK OF REQUESTING A TV SERIES! IT COULD BE MONTHS BEFORE I POST ANOTHER MOVIE.

For those of you who want television series, here's the best blog on the web to find what you're looking for! http://mostlyseries.blogspot.com/ If you can't find it here, it's not available!

If you find Gigasize links posted as being 'no longer active' please be sure to contact me at Dakota.Montana.Utah@gmail.com, and I'll do my best to re-upload the movie in RS and SS. Enjoy!

Thanks
