Adored: Diary of a Porn Star

In this evocative Italian film, writer/director/star Marco Filiberti stars as fictional gay Italian porn star Riki Kandinsky who reunites with his older brother Federico at their parent's castle after their father's death. Frederico is an uptight businessman who has never gotten along with his younger brother. After some family-type clumsiness Federico accompanies Riki back to Rome to talk things over with their father's lawyers. Federico knows little about his younger brother, except that he has no money worries and he lives in a luxurious flat. After some snooping, he finds a porno magazine with pictures of his brother which shed plenty of light on the subject. The brothers, who had grown apart over the years, get to know each other again. Then, one day, their lives are changed dramatically by a car accident during which a young woman dies before their eyes.
Filberti says his film is "about a bond between opposites, without the mechanism of a conventional love story, by pursuing a purely platonic attraction." (Italian with English subtitles)

The Birdcage

Cast: Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, Gene Hackman, Dianne Wiest, Dan Futterman, Calista Flockhart, Hank Azaria, Christine Baranski, Kevin Stea

An often hilariously funny and successfully Americanized, upliftingly pro-gay remake of the French farce La Cage aux Folles. The setting is Miami Beach's hip South Beach where Armand Goldman (Robin Williams) runs an extravagant drag revue called The Birdcage. His longtime lover Albert (Nathan Lane) is the star attraction, billed as Starina. The two men live in an uninhibited, gloriously tacky apartment tended by Agador (a very funny Hank Azaria), their Guatemalan houseboy (think Lucy on steroids). The story remains the same: Armand's son wants to bring his fiancée and her right-wing parents over to meet the family, forcing the men to put on a "family values" show for the unsuspecting future in-laws. Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest wonderfully underplay their roles as an arch-conservative U.S. Senator and his doting wife. As Armand, Williams is subtly fey and delivers the film's best lines, and Lane steals the show as the theatrically swishy diva "mom" with an ear-piercing squeal. Possibly too contemporary (will its au courant political jokes work in a few years?), the comedy is meant to be "non-offensive" to all, as the most intimate the lovers get is holding hands.

Torch Song Trilogy

BECAUSE THE SIZE OF THIS MOVIE WAS SO HUGE, THE FILES ARE ALMOST 200MB EACH. DON'T SAY YOU WEREN'T WARNED

Certainly one of the most emotional and adored gay films to have ever emerged from Hollywood, this is Harvey Fierstein's moment of cinematic glory. The story veers from laughter to tears in seconds flat and is one of our top films of all time.

3 REASONS TO DOWNLOAD THIS FILM
Harvey Fierstein's masterpiece is perfection.
Anne Bancroft is the best on-screen Jewish mother ever.
I cry every time I see the film when Matthew Broderick goes down to get pizza and at the ending. Torch Song Trilogy comes from the heart

Harvey Fierstein's breakthrough Tony Award-winning play becomes this big-screen essay about the life and loves of Brooklyn's most lovable drag queen. Fierstein is both touching and hilarious as Arnold Beckoff, whose life is presented in three non-episodic acts. The story examines his relationship with his bisexual boyfriend (Brian Kerwin), gay lover (Matthew Broderick) and mother (Anne Bancroft).

Prom Queen: The Marc Hall Story

Gay teen Marc Hall made headlines in Spring 2002 when he defied his Catholic school board and brought his boyfriend to the prom. In this Canadian television film, the events are re-enacted with lots of style and sense of fun we think you'll love, we did.

With his blue hair and life-size poster of Celine Dion on his bedroom wall, Marc Hall's devout Catholic parents had to deal with having a gay son, but now the school board of his Catholic Parish had to face Marc as well. All Marc wanted to do was bring his date to the prom like all of his accepting friends, and that's just what the school wouldn't allow -- so sets the drama for this excellent, surprisingly fun, made-for-Canadian TV movie.
Set in the fictional working-class town of Inniston, Ontario, Prom Queen introduces viewers to Marc Hall (Ashmore), a popular student who manages to avoid the typical harassment a gay kid in a small town would expect to face. But when Marc decides to take his boyfriend to the prom, he finds he has stepped over the line, straight into a firestorm. His boyfriend Jason wasn't prepared for the battle and closet issues arise. His mother and father love their son unconditionally and they join the battle. Marc submits his application to take his date to the prom like all other students, expecting nothing more than to join the party. What he gets is a firm rejection first from the principal and then the school board. When Marc appeals the decision he loses that too. It's then that sharp gay attorney Lonnie Winn (Scott Thompson) takes up the battle toward the end we all know is coming -- after all this is a happy movie!
With lively set design, lots of catchy pop tunes and clever screenwriting, Prom Queen has none of that dryness a US TV movie has. While you won't be getting any sexual jollies off the film, you will probably laugh, you'll learn something and you'll probably find yourself cheering for Marc before the film's end.

All the Rage

A witty story of a gym-obsessed high-powered attorney who falls in love with an under-employed, slightly plump sweetheart!
REVIEW
Bostonian Roland Tec takes a well-deserved jab at the lifestyles of the rich, horny and gay in this satiric comedy that skewers the superficiality of gay men. Christopher (John-Michael Lander) is a gay man’s dream catch: a lawyer who’s got money, a brain, a buff bod and a more than healthy libido. And even though perfect pecs are the not stuff of true happiness, Christopher would beg differently as he happily wallows in his own shallowness by toning up by day and successfully cruising the bars for other chiseled beauties at night.
Much to the horror of Larry (the hilarious Jay Corcoran), his sex-obsessed, gym buddy best friend, Christopher does find his Prince Charming but the prince turns out to be a frog, well actually he's a great guy. Stewart (David Vincent), an out-of-shape, chunky, under-employed geek without a clue on to how to accessorize is the new beau! Will the two find happiness in their mismatched arms or will Christopher’s wondering eyes do him in? A comedy yes, but also a bracing and needed indictment of the body-obsessed world of ‘90s gay men.

Danny in the Sky

Cast: Jessie Beaulieu, Véronique Pepin, Thierry Pépin, Véronique Jenkins, Daniel Lortie, Caroline Portelance, Eric Cabana

This thoughtful, powerfully dramatic tale of a sexy young aspiring male model who claims to be straight... yet finds every aspect of his life pulling him in the other direction!

Danny (Thierry Pépin) is a stunningly good-looking teenager and has begun to use those looks to his benefit - working as model and stripper. The drawback? Everyone is convinced he's gay, and they certainly have reasons to believe that's so. Besides his career and flawless appearance, Danny also has an openly gay father (who's radically opposed to his career ambitions), and his mom (who died of an overdose) was a beautiful model diva! Is he gay? How can he not be? Outwardly rebelling against people's expectations, Danny internally isn't so sure - perhaps he is gay. This leads to a serious identity crisis, a delve into pornography and an affair with Karine, a deeply voyeuristic photographer.
Openly gay director Denis Langlois (whose 1997 L'Escorte is an overlooked favorite of ours) expertly handles this complex, sophisticated examination of one man's coming to grips with being a lily amongst a field of tulips. Of course, by taking place in strip clubs and modeling studios, the film's plentiful eye candy doesn't hurt! (French with English subtitles)

Sordid Lives

Marvelously campy, queer, white trash comedy cult hit, whose incredible cast includes Olivia Newton-John as a dyke! Join Latrelle, Bitsy Mae, Noleta, Wardell, and "Brother Boy," as they chew gum, chain smoke, gossip and trash each other on their messy paths through a family funeral.

3 REASONS TO DOWNLOAD THIS FILM
The Logo series is based on this camp classic
One night I wandered through a gay campground and heard two separate campsites watching the film and shouting favorite lines aloud.
Sordid Lives is like an addiction, except there is no group you can get relief from -- you just need to watch the film again...and again.

Lovers of white-trash camp should drop your corn dogs and get this raucous comedy. Like a trailer-trash soap opera on speed, Sordid Lives centers on the extended family of Texas rednecks who’ve come together for the funeral of their adulterous matriarch. There’s Peggy, the randy gal accidentally killed when she tripped over the wooden legs of the married G.W. (Bridges); her ever-squabbling big-haired daughters LaVonda (Walker) and Latrelle (Bedelia); G.W.’s wife, the revengeful neighbor Noleta (Burke); and Peggy’s sister Sissy (Grant), who picked the wrong time to quit smoking.
Rounding out the cast of family members is brother Earl (Jordan), a Tammy Wynette-obsessed drag queen who’s spent 23 years in a mental institution fighting "a severe case of homosexuality with a demonic side of transvestism"; the hunky Ty (Geiger), Latrelle’s estranged gay son; and Bitsy Mae (Newton-John), a guitar-strumming, country music-singing ex-con whose had her own illicit affair with the deceased. Some take the news of Peggy’s death with a shrug and a piece of pecan pie, while others turn into Thelma and Louise and turn a bar full of men into lace bra-wearing sluts.
The dialogue is snappy and often times fall-out-of-your seats funny. The tantrums, gossips, revelations, breakouts and coming outs spill all over the linoleum floor in this film that deliriously revels in its look at chitin-loving, beer-guzzling, gun-totting, same sex-loving, pill-popping eccentrics.

Denied

Former high school hunk Troy had everything: popularity, girls, and the life of a super jock. But time is passing in a rotting small town where Troy's truest goal, and only denial, is the love of his best friend, Merrick.
Merrick is a lazy, self-absorbed slacker whose offerings of midnight massages and cheap sex while his girlfriend's away cause an endless merry-go-round of confusion for the sexy team captain. Troy soon comes to realize that one-sided love is the worst kind of denial.

Back Soon

Crisply told and delving into areas we've never seen examined in film before, Rob Williams' Back Soon is a remarkable step-up from his first endeavor Long-Term Relationship. Using the same two lead actors, Williams story casts a cinematic spell from the moment the film begins.
Logan (Beacham) is recovering from the death of his wife when he meets Gil (Montgomery). The two men hit it off immediately, and they both know it's not just friendship. After a drunken night that ends up in the sack, the two men become physically aware of their attraction to one another. Both men identify as straight, but for some reason, they are very hot for each other. As their relationship develops, the two men realize that powers from the other side are having an influence on their lives. Friends and family are shocked at the two new lovers, some are supportive when the facts are revealed, some are most decidedly not. All is well until Gil reveals his sordid past and events spin out of control.
With fine acting from both Matthew Montgomery (Gone, but Not Forgotten and Socket) and Windham Beacham, Williams' new film is anchored in solid rock. The story is golden and the film very captivating.

West Hollywood Stories Vol. 1

Cast: Allan Anderson, Nicole Balick, Blaine Cotton, Michael Fitzgerald, Jon Prutow, Jimmy Prada, Aura right, Tom Young, Vincent Zamora

A colorfully cheesy and totally tacky fun-fest for lovers of the soaps and everyone who loves a little camp. San Francisco in the 1970's had Tales of the City and now 1999s West Hollywood has their own queer soap opera with this funny, sexy soaper which centers on the on-going antics of the assorted queer residents of a WeHo apartment house. There are handsome hunks, evil docs, a bitchy gossip columnist, an elder but still randy old queen (think Quentin Crisp on Viagra) and even a nude Latino servant. They -- gay, lesbian and straight -- are all caught up in the sexual turmoil and sexual chaos of the place.

Prayers for Bobby

Sigourney Weaver, Ryan Kelley, Susan Ruttan, Dan Butler

Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Sigourney Weaver stars in this emotional true story about a 1970s religious suburban housewife and mother who struggles to accept her young son Bobby being gay. What happens to Bobby is tragic and causes Mary to question her faith; ultimately this mom changes her views in ways that she never could have imagined. Also starring Ryan Kelly ("Mean Creek"), Susan Ruttan ("LA Law"), Dan Butler ("Frasier") and Henry Czerny ("The Tudors"). Based on the book “Prayers for Bobby” by Leroy Aarons.

The Mysteries of Pittsburgh

As a fan of the novel, I had high standards for this literary adaptation. Published in 1988, Michael Chabon's "The Mysteries of Pittsburgh" is an essential volume in any gay library. It's protagonist sleeps with both women and men -- and doesn't identify sexually -- a character 20 years ahead of his time. While Mysteries of Pittsburgh -- the film -- is far from perfect, it's entertaining and doesn't put the lead men into the closet. Art Bechstein (a very adorable Jon Foster) has just graduated from college and he's got the summer to study for his stockbrokers license exam and work at a bookstore. Art is the son of a gangster (Nick Nolte) who doesn't want his son near his dangerously unsavory business. Here's the first oddity some of you might have noticed -- Art Bechstein is a Jewish name -- while Jon Foster can pass for Jewish - Nick Nolte is most decidedly not Jewish. Art's sleeping with his supervisor Phlox (Mena Suvari) who thinks the relationship is more than it is. Art's summer goes from routine to insane when he meets Jane (Sienna Miller) and Cleveland (the ever-fearless Peter Sarsgaard). A tenuous family unit Cleveland is a small-time hood with gambling debts and Jane is a little rich girl on an adventure. Immediately there is a sexual tension between the three leads. Jane, Art and Cleveland all flirt with one another until it all explodes. Yes, there are male-male kisses and yes the two men sleep together -- that's all we'll tell you.
While I didn't see any amazing chemistry between the cast members, it works nonetheless. For the first time in a while we've got an indie with some star power and gay cred.

Ciao

A young man’s death is the unlikely catalyst for a trans-continental friendship -- and maybe more -- between his best friend and a sexy Italian Internet buddy in this poignant story of love and loss.

From director Yen Tan comes this heartfelt story of endings, beginnings and yearning. After the sudden death of his ex Mark, Jeff takes it upon himself to inform friends of his passing. While innocently searching for contacts on Mark’s computer, Jeff comes across an email from a handsome Italian named Andrea. Andrea and Mark met online and had planned to meet for the first time when Andrea was visiting stateside. Rather than cancel the trip and return to Italy, Andrea decides to come anyway and meet Jeff. Brought together by misfortune, a warm friendship develops between the two men. But as their bond deepens, the friendship seems like it might grow into something more. Adam Neal Smith and Alessandro Calza both give great performances as two men looking to make sense of a difficult situation. Concentrating on his central characters, Yen Tan displays a finely honed ability to craft a powerful drama. Ciao is a great date movie -- and a must for anyone in love with unrequited love.

Boys Life

The three gay male shorts on this video compilation include:

The Disco Years (1991, 30 min, US, Robert Lee King); A humorous coming-of-age tale set in the 1970s about a high school student who falls in love with another male teen and decides to tell mom all about it.

A Friend of Dorothy; (1994, 31 min, US, Raoul O'Connell) A NYU student finds sex increasingly preocupying his thoughts (helped by his hunky roommate). He finds solace of the anonymous kind and discovers a new friend in an icon named Judy.

Pool Days (1993, 29 min, US, Brian Sloan); Sexy and sensitive, this short follows the coming out of a 17-year-old when he takes a summer job as a lifeguard/attendent. The steam and naked flesh soon proves too much for the boy!

Boys Life 2

An outstanding four-short compilation all focusing on being young and gay.
Includes the exceptional The Dadshuttle by Tom Donaghy, a knowing and poignant drama of a young man coming out to his father while in a car;
Alkali, Iowa by Mark Christopher, a serious drama of a young rural man accepting his homosexuality (from the director of 54);
Must Be the Music by Nickolas Perry, a tale of four teenage friends out on the town in L.A.;
and the witty Nunzio's Second Cousin by Tom DeCerchio about a gay detective who gets his unusual revenge on a young gay-basher. A collection of some of the best gay shorts of the '90s.

Boys Life 3

Another collection of cutting-edge short films from Strand ReleasingThe third installment in Strand's series of gay short films contains five short films of varying quality and interest.

Majorettes in Space - A somewhat strange 6 minute animated French film that draws parallels about human sexuality and AIDS.

Hitch - Bradley Rust Gray's 18 minute film about two guys on a drive, one gay and one "straight". This edgy short film is packed with sexual tension and the two boys provide plenty of eye candy.

Inside Out - was written, directed and stars Jason Gould, son of icon Barbra Streisand and Elliot Gould. It's an autobiographical film about the son of celebrities. Although the film is certainly amateurish, it's plenty of fun and there is some juicy celebrity guessing here.

Just One Time -Lane Janger's 7 min. film about a straight man's desire to see his fiancée make love with another woman. But what she wants in exchange, is for her man to make love with another man! Starring Lane Janger and the always adorable Guilllermo Diaz (Stonewall and I Think I Do)

$30 - The last short was by Gregory Cook and written by Christopher Landon, son of Michael Landon. It's about a young gay man whose father brings him to a prostitute (Sara Gilbert) for his birthday. Instead of sex the two stars bond in this warm and terrific short film, certainly a great ending to the collection.

Boys Life 4: Four Play

The latest installment in the Boys Life series of gay short films. Featuring films directed by directors Brian Sloan (I Think I Do), Eric Mueller (World and Time Enough) and filmmakers Alan Brown and Phillip J. Bartell, this follow-up showcases terrific gay short films from the festival circuit.

L.T.R. ( US, 2002, 16 min , Phillip J Bartell) 3 starsThis mockumentary dares to explore the maturity and commitment that today's queer youth are all about. It follows two boys through the duration of a "lengthy" two-week relationship. With the current reality TV trend, this fun entry places two cute boys under the scrutiny of the camera and the camera man.

Bumping Heads ( US, 2002, 17 min , Brian Sloan) 2 1/2 starsGay film favorite Craig Chester plays a middle-aged gay man who must have been unconscious to fall for a dizzy young fox he met at a party. This was our least favorite film on the collection. As both actor Craig Chester and director Brian Sloan are both quite talented we hope they move onto less mannered work in the future.

This Car Up ( US, 2002, 16 min , Eric Mueller) 4 starsDid you ever wonder about those hot, rough-looking bike messenger boys? We found one that really delivers. A radical and really quite amazing film that uses four frames to deliver a story of glances and inner thoughts. Our favorite in the collection is original, witty and sexy.

O' Beautiful (US, 2002, 29 min , Alan Brown) 4 starsA midnight conversation between a gay teen who has just been bashed and the all-American Christian jock who offers him comfort is the focus of this smartly directed splitscreen narrative. This one's a close second. A truly terrific short film with outstanding young actors who manage to display some serious chops in only a half hour.

Boys Life 5

The fifth in Strand Releasing's powerful series of gay short films is dripping in homoerotic energy and is probably our favorite in the series.

Fishbelly White -- From the maker of The Mudge Boy comes this excellent gay short film. Beneath a railroad bridge a young rural gay man begins to his explore his gay feelings with the aid of an understanding friend. For you lovers of The Mudge Boy, Fishbelly White is an early short version of the film. Beautifully shot and acted this tale of young gay man in lust with another is outstanding. And for fans of tighty-whities, the railroad bridge scene is a ten.

Time Off -- Eytan Fox's (Yossi & Jagger, Walk on Water) first film, Time Off, a 45-minute drama about sexual identity in the Israeli army, won the “Movie Of the Year Award” (1990) at the Israeli Film Institute, First Prize in Munich’s International Student Film Festival, and was shown on TV in Europe and in the U.S. The only film in the pack with a pedigree is also the driest and least interesting. While this film is a letdown and pretty boring, don't let it ruin your experience as the other three films are so strong.

Dare -- High school senior Ben secretly lusts after bad boy classmate Johnny. After Ben gives Johnny a ride home one night, the boys end up in Johnny’s swimming pool and have an encounter that breaks the rules and blows Ben’s mind. Filmed with elegance and told with eclan, Dare is a short film that needs to be made into a feature. The leads are hot, their acting chops impeccable and perfectly cast. Dare is our favorite film in the collection, we can't wait to see it again.

Late Summer -- A photographer remembers that special summer that he spent with his somewhat older cousin, the feelings that were awakened, and the unexpected turn of events behind his "best" photo. Also shot gorgeously in the Boston area, this short film is the story of a boy's sexual awakening that's so powerful it wrenches in pain. The actor playing Josh looks like a young Mark Wahlberg and as a special bonus, he appears totally naked in the swimming home scene.

Boys Life 6

Strand Releasing has compiled four of the hottest gay men's shorts from the film festival circuit for the sixth collection in this superlative series.

Doorman -- (17 min) Ethereal and emmiting a sheen of loneliness, Etienne Kallos' film tells a story of a Latino doorman who is seduced by a new tenant, a rich, emotionally-damaged white boy. Their affair is brief, tumultuous and doesn't end well. Emotionally wrenching with few words said, this short film blew us away with its powerful images and characters.
Bugcrush -- (36 min) The centerpiece of the collection, Carter Smith's film is a powerful amalgam of a tale of gay sexual obsession/seduction and a horror thriller like you've never seen before. An adorable red-haired geeky gay teen falls head-over-heels obsessed with a dark mysterious tough boy. The suspense builds as the tough boy takes his new friend to his dark home deep in the woods. With realistic dialogue and unforced acting, the filmmaker takes us to some wholly unexpected places.
Davy & Stu -- (14 min) Filmmaker Soman Chainani's lyrical film is like a sweet song we don't want to ever end. Two boys meet in a dark Scotland bog for a nightly erotic ritual in this richly shot, moody adaptation of Anton Dudley’s award-winning play.
Heartland -- (13 min) HG, 21, lives a happy and openly gay life in New York. He must return to Iowa to help his alcoholic father save the family farm. He no longer feels he is a member of his family tribe but digs into the work along side his father and a hired man, Ryan, who has his own set of problems. After HG’s father becomes ill, the two young men are forced to work together, and find that they have more in common than they would have thought. From filmmaker Mark Christopher (54).

Hi,

If you're reading this, you've found this blog by way of Rubbing1Off.blogspot.com. This blog will only contain Gay Themed movies.

Postings of Get Real, 2 Minutes Later, Regarding Billy, and Rock Haven, now have Sendspace and Rapidshare links.

Have all episodes of True Blood that have been aired. As new episodes are aired, they will be added. (True Blood is current to 08-09-09 episode) Plus, have the new 'Hung' Series to post as well. HOT Thomas Jane as a Gigalo! (Hung is current to 08-09-09 episode)

Even though I usually DON'T take requests, I do like to know what you guys find interesting and would like to see posted here. BUT!!!! Please, realize, an average movie TAKES 6 TO 8 HOURS TO UPLOAD! DON'T EVEN THINK OF REQUESTING A TV SERIES! IT COULD BE MONTHS BEFORE I POST ANOTHER MOVIE.

For those of you who want television series, here's the best blog on the web to find what you're looking for! http://mostlyseries.blogspot.com/ If you can't find it here, it's not available!

If you find Gigasize links posted as being 'no longer active' please be sure to contact me at Dakota.Montana.Utah@gmail.com, and I'll do my best to re-upload the movie in RS and SS. Enjoy!

Thanks
