Take a visit to Montreal's "Little Italy" in this hysterical comedy about two closeted gay guys and their "old world" families. Maria and Gino (Paul Sorvino with badly dyed hair) moved from Italy to Montreal in the 50s and they still haven't adjusted to the new world. When their curly-haired, totally cute son Angelo (Kirby) decides to move out they ask "What is so wrong with living with your parents until you get married?" Angelo looked down the block at an older single gentleman who still gets slapped by his mother and he decided enough was enough. When Angelo's apartment is robbed, his old childhood friend Nino (who has since become a major stud) arrives as the cop on the scene. The two old buddies go on a camping trip to re-ignite their friendship and two sleeping bags become one. The two guys quickly set up house together, but Nino has one condition - that no one know that they are lovers. When the news inevitably leaks all hell breaks in Italian-family style with plenty of shouting and laughs. When the dust settles, Nino has left Angelo alone and has started seriously dating a woman. We don't want to ruin the ending, but have no fear - it's gay positive.
Mambo Italiano is lots of fun - there are plenty of laughs. High production values, excellent acting, funny script and seriously cute stars make this a wonderful, yet sexless piece of fluff.
